Working with partners in education and industry to develop and retain a workforce with the knowledge and skills to match employment opportunities and industry needs
Promoting partnerships between industry and other bodies to create the infrastructure that meets the needs of the new economy
Promoting public understanding of science and technology to ensure everyone understands its importance in their daily lives.
Activities include:
Investing in science/business initiatives such as infrastructure, demonstrators and joint ventures
Brokering research-company relationships
Managing and enhancing industry-driven sector networks
Delivering and coordinating inspiring science and technology-based festivals and events
Science City York was established in 1998 as a partnership between the University of York and City of York Council, with significant involvement from local businesses and subsequently supported by Yorkshire Forward, the Regional Development Agency for Yorkshire and the Humber.

West Yorkshire Ventures
West Yorkshire Ventures was created to provide support to new business ideas in West Yorkshire which have the potential to grow rapidly into sustainable businesses and create jobs and wealth in the region. In the first 18 months of operation, West Yorkshire Ventures (WYV) assisted over 225 companies to become established. Support and advice was given to enable the companies to overcome the barriers to trade.

The DDA (Defence Diversification Agency) was born from the realisation that a major source of Innovation - our defence laboratories - was unknown to most of the business world.
